As one of the leading building companies in the Southampton, Romsey and New Forest areas, our builders are equally proficient in the main variations of loft conversions.
Dormer Loft Conversions – With a quick construction turnaround combined with a large amount of floor space, Dormer loft conversions continue to hold their place as the most popular option for homeowners. Usually protruding from the rear of the house, they rise up vertically from the slope of the roof.
Hip-to-Gable Loft Conversions – Our builders fit these loft conversions to detached or semi-detached houses in the Southampton, Romsey and New Forest areas with hip-end roofing structures. By replacing the sloping roof at the side of the property with a vertical wall (gable) at the same height as the current ridge, a new room is created within the shell of additional roof space.
Mansard Loft Conversions – Invariably requiring planning permission due to raised party walls on both sides of a property, Mansard loft conversions remain the most aesthetically appealing option, particularly for period properties. A timber frame is built between the raised walls, sloping in at an angle of 72 degrees.
According to the Government’s Planning Portal, loft conversions fall under the classification of “permitted development.” This means they don’t require planning permission if they meet certain criteria.
As long the maximum head height inside a loft is at least 2.3 metres, our builders can get to work on loft conversions at any Southampton, Romsey or New Forest area home as soon as the designs are ready.
Unlike other building companies in the region, our builders equally excel in basement conversions. In the majority of cases, basement conversions don’t require planning permission. The only exceptions to this involve lowering the floor of the basement in order to extend the ceiling height, or if the conversion impacts a neighbour’s wall or any shared beams.
The former is classed as property extension while the latter requires the permission of any effected neighbours in accordance with the Party Wall Act.
The style of a basement conversion depends entirely on the wishes of our individual clients in Southampton, Romsey and the New Forest area. From traditional interiors to contemporary designs, basement conversions provide a blank canvas for any purpose.
As you’d expect from one of the most trusted building companies in the Hampshire region, our builders fully comply with current Building Regulations. This includes ensuring that ventilation, insulation, damp-proofing and escape route standards are all met.
Loft and basement conversions often provide a first step to a wider overhaul of a property. Take a look at our refurbishments and renovations page for even more inspiration.
